2024 Travel Trends

Whilst the darker nights are only just drawing in we all know how quickly the end of the year creeps up on us and it won't be long before we're celebrating the New Year!

At Dovetail travel is our passion and we are already thinking about how we can beat those January blues, so we have compiled a few of the travel trends we can expect to see in 2024.

1.       Transformational Trips (or Wellness Getaways)

This is a trend that has been exacerbated since the pandemic and is showing no signs of slowing down. The increased awareness surrounding mental health and wellbeing has resulted in a growing trend for trips that allow travellers to fully immerse themselves in the world they live in and return from their holiday as the best version of themselves. With this in mind, from October 2023 Bürgenstock Collection will have a new programme of Hydrothermal Journeys across its four Spas in Switzerland so guests may access the scientifically recognised benefits of hydrothermal bathing and leave with their mind and body feeling relaxed, regenerated and activated.

2.       Regenerative Dining

Regenerative Dining is a movement expected to gain traction in 2024, especially with younger generations preferring restaurants that utilise ingredients from sustainable farm. With the effects o climate changing continuing to unfold around us we are seeing more and more restaurants choosing to source their ingredients from local farms and producers. San Baylon is located in the exquisite Palazzo Ripetta and home to traditional Italian dishes skilfully curated by Chef Marco Ciccotelli using ingredients sourced locally.

3.       Set-Jetting

Have you ever been binge-watching a show or film and had to pause to admire the location? Well you are not alone! A trend that took off in 2023 and is likely to continue into 2024 is an increase in bookings to the incredible destinations people have seen on their screen. 39% of travellers in 2023 have booked a trip to a destination they have seen in films or shows and this is only expected to grow in 2024. Especially as the colder evenings spent by the fire binge-watching Netflix are fast approaching. Popular Set-Jetting holiday destinations include Paris (thanks Emily!), UK (historical dramas) and Switzerland. With the anticipated release of Mufasa: The Lion King, a destination we expect to gain popularity is Kenya, where the safari concept began. Experience the majestic roaming wildlife at the Masai Mara National Park with an itinerary specially curated by Natural World Safaris

4.       Multi-Generational Travel

There has been a 40% increase in multi-generational travel year over year with more families wanting to experience new destinations together. These holidays typically comprise of grandparents, children, grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles and even great-grandparents. This trend has been increasing since the pandemic due to families not being able to see each other. At Wyndham Grand Algarve there is a myriad of activities available for families of all ages from bike riding to water sports, at The Campus guests can practice the popular padel ball and test their football skills.
